Avram Greenberg survived them the Nazi occupation of Poland, the misery of ghetto life, Auschwitz, hard labor in coal mines, and a brutal death march. When liberation came, he returned to Lodz, Poland, to wait for his family to return. None came back. After five months of mourning, a chance encounter with a woman on the streets of post-war Lodz gave Avram a glimmer of hope that his wife had survived too, and led him on a six-hundred-mile journey to a displaced persons camp outside Frankfurt, Germany.
