Brynne isn’t quite like other teens. Confined to a life of solitude and loneliness, she must always keep her distance for fear that others will learn her secrets. Things change when she meets Jessica, the only real friend she's had and the only person she feels comfortable revealing her secrets to. However, Brynne begins to realize that she is not the last of her kind as she always thought, and that the others have no problem with violence and murder. Amid all this, she comes to terms with the fact that she's a lesbian, and is finally able to admit it to herself. Now with people in her life who she loves, she can no longer run away, and must put herself in danger to protect them.

When young people in a nearby city are found dead with no apparent injuries the Venator Inmortuorum—a secret agency whose goal is to eliminate all vampires—require Brynne and Jessica to investigate. What they find is a very new enemy. While there, Brynne discovers new love interests, meets new friends, and finds that an old friend isn't quite what she thought.
