Some people know what they want to do from an early age, and they do it. Others take a little longer but eventually settle down to something and get on with it. Not me; oh no. I wanted to be a vet from about the age of 8 until I was 17 when I suddenly realised that getting up at five in the morning to shove my hand up a cow's bottom was the LAST thing I wanted to do. So I walked out in the middle of my A levels and never went back. (You could do that in the olden days, when bread was white wi' no bits in it, and we still thought bacon was good for you.) I signed on and looked for work and did rubbish jobs for rubbish money. I even worked in a bookshop once, but was sacked after getting bored and reading a children's book in the lift. I did a bunch of jobs and every time I got somewhere at them I found a way to get myself sacked, or I quit over something trivial. In school I heard three things more often than any other, like mantras. "You're brilliant but lazy" "You'd forget your head if it wasn't screwed on" "It's never you is it? It's always somebody else's fault!" That last one was the only one I could fully agree with. (I never did get sarcasm back then) It wasn't until my first son was diagnosed with Aspergers, that I found out, I'm not a total loser, I've got Aspergers. Yay! An excuse. But of course, it's not an excuse, it's not a disability, it's just a different ability, and one of the great things about Aspies is we can be quite creative sometimes. So I was the lead singer in a Led Zeppelin tribute band (Led Zep Too) for 7 years, and we made money. Not a lot of money, but enough to have a part time job instead of full time. I also wrote then, but not seriously. Since then I have started taking my writing more seriously, and finally published my first book on Kindle. "Time Tunnel to Londinium" (TTtL) A sequel followed "Londinium Revisited", and then (1st Jan 2016) "Time Tunnel at the Seaside" These three are now also available in paperback and audiobook. More recently, I released Time Tunnel to West Leighton and am currently working on Time Tunnel to Ironbridge. Sales have been slow but steady, I'm fine with that. My real passion however is the "Wise Oak" series; beginning with "Children of the Wise Oak" 2016 Successfully crowdfunded and with a professional edit and cover as well as being a full length book for young adult and older.
