On the Shortness of Life (originally De Brevitate Vitae ) is one of the ten Dialogi written by Seneca; it's dedicated to Paulinus and was written between 49-50 AD.This is one of the most important works of Seneca and faces the problem of time and its fleeting nature.Men often complain about the shortness of life, but the time, according to the philosopher, shouldn't be evaluated for its quantity but for its quality: “Life, if you know how to use it well, is long."The occupati, as Seneca calls them, are opposed to the wise man because they spend their lives in countless unnecessary worries, throwing away the most precious thing we have, which is time. The wise man knows how to make the most of every moment constantly researching wisdom and the attainment of virtue; he is present in every moment and knows that the present is the only temporal dimension under his control. At the end of the book, you have some space left for you to write your reflections about what you've read, a typical stoic habit.
