A year has passed since the arrival of RP One and the crew of Aurora are busy learning everything they can about the alien craft. Meanwhile, Francis Moore finds himself returning to the United States in the company of Titov Kargin to make arrangements for the arrival of the organization's latest recruit, a geological engineer by the name of Jasper Klein.
Francis soon discovers that Jasper has been approached by another bidder, a company that turns out not to exists. When, during a ploy to identify the mystery rival, Jasper is suddenly kidnapped by agents of the Chinese government, a mysterious plot begins to unfold that involves not only Beijing, but Pyongyang, London, and the notoriously secretive Bank for International Settlements. At its centre is a conspiracy four decades in the making, which, if allowed to succeed, could turn the geopolitical landscape on its head, and usher in a new age; an age whose fortunes may soon be dictated not by the democracies of the western world, but the totalitarian masters of Asia.
