I write novels about gay men in trouble. Trouble with the law. Trouble with love. Usually there’s a secret. Sometimes there's a crime. The story can take place far away or just down the street. A strange man in a strange place doesn’t know who to trust. A local boy shouldn’t have that problem but he can. Each story follows two men who meet. Emotional, erotic, and life-changing, their encounters generate adventures beyond their wildest dreams. The joys and frustrations of cultural exchange run through most of my books. I live in French, write in English, and work in both. I’m not a linguist and my books are far from scholarly, but in creating characters that have to weave their way through someone else’s world I reflect my own experience and, hopefully, convey the thrill. Writing is liberating in so many ways but it's a curse, too. How to live your own life while living all the lives in your head? It can be a challenge. As my partner succinctly puts it when I go quiet during supper, “No plotting at the table!”
