Paul studied history, education, international affairs and literary journalism at the Universities of Cardiff, Oxford and Hong Kong. He is from southern England and lived in the jungled fringes of Hong Kong from 2011-18. He now lives on Australia's Gold Coast. Paul writes freelance journalism for the Sydney Morning Herald, Canberra Times and South China Morning Post. He and his son run the hit family podcast series, Dad & Me Love History (see https://www.dadandmelovehistory.com/). A Chance Kill (2015) was inspired by the author’s grandmother time on the run from the Nazis. The RAF side of the story is inspired by the unheralded heroics of aircrews sent to war in technology so shamefully obsolete that we hear nothing about these aircraft today. In researching A Chance Kill, Paul met with professional historians throughout Europe, where he learned more about Warsaw before it was flattened, Prague’s nest of wartime conspirators, the ‘James Bond’ gadget workshop within London’s Natural History Museum, and Britain’s little-known first offensive of World War Two. The Slightest Chance (released 2018 in Hong Kong/2019 in the rest of the world): In 1941, an Anglo-Australian's circumstances in colonial Hong Kong become complicated by his double life in both love and war. From real history, discover the Australian-run spy agency that operated in occupied China, witness how a young Englishwoman made unique history in her defiancé of Imperial Japan and meet the Japanese Christian soldier who risked his life helping Imperial Japan's enemies.
