
Paul McEwan is Professor of Media & Communication and Film Studies at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. A native of Glasgow and Toronto, he lives in Allentown and in Aix-en-Provence, and speaks both English and French with accents that always sound like they're from somewhere else. He completed a Ph.D. in Radio/TV/Film at Northwestern University, and has taught a mixture of courses in pop culture studies and production for 20 years. His most recent authored book is Cinema's Original Sin: D.W. Griffith, American Racism, and the Rise of Film Culture from the University of Texas Press (2022). He is also the editor, with Melvyn Stokes, of the collection In the Shadow of The Birth of a Nation: Racism, Reception, Resistance, released by Palgrave Macmillan in 2023.
