I was born in England and lived there until I was 30. Jobs there included science and art teacher, nature reserve warden and museum curator - and I also trained in calligraphy, print and papermaking, and bookbinding. Brisbane, Australia, is now home and I write stories for children of all ages, and also non-fiction for adults and young people. 'Once a Creepy Crocodile' is my latest picture book, which comes with a CD of the words being sung by Rusty Berther to the tune of Waltzing Matilda, and it's been wonderfully illustrated by Nina Rycroft. I've had three calligraphy and papercrafting books published and I write in calligraphy for people through my business Peter Taylor's Calligraphics. One of my handmade and hand-written books was part of World Expo's gift to the Queen at its opening. I'm currently writing the text of a children's story in calligraphy ...and also a YA creative biography of a Victorian English hermit and a book about 101 small things. I wrote the 'science' and 'survival' sections of '101 Things to do Before You Grow Up' for Hinkler Books. Hobbies include natural history and landscape photography, hiking, gardening ...and I intend to learn to play my mandolin better, play bass and eat less chocolate.
