Peter Lester Payne (born 1929), first Colquhoun Lecturer in Business History at the University of Glasgow (1959 - 69). Professor of Economic History at the University of Aberdeen (1969 - 95). He has specialised in the development of the Scottish Economy but has also written studies on British entrepreneurship and the rise of the large-scale firm. Since 1990 he has edited the journal, Northern Scotland.
