Prudence of the Parsonage is the story of a young woman's experiences living in the Methodist parsonage in Mount Mark, Iowa. Her father has been appointed minister and Prudence, whose mother passed away five years before, is in charge of the house and her four younger sisters.

When Prudence Starr gets married and moves into her own home, Aunt Grace comes to take care of Prue's four younger sisters and their father, the parson at Mount Mark. Nevertheless, her younger sisters still live by the rule of "Prudence says so."
