I’d been driving fast, though, a fact which I cringed away from, feeling instinctively that it was out of character. And I was also apparently pregnant, something the doctor had discovered in routine bloodwork upon my arrival in the emergency department. Had I even known? He said it was early days yet, maybe five weeks. My fingers moved reflexively on my stomach. A baby. I couldn’t tell someone my phone number, but I was going to have a baby.
