Tilley's Mill is a nearly-dead town with decaying buildings. The youth are leaving for jobs in the city, and parents are bemoaning the fragmentation of the family. Isabell Dunnfield, breaks down on a trip from Asheville, NC to Chicago. Leck rescues her and brings her into town. Isabelle is stunned by the ghost-like feeling of the town. Isabell returns a few weeks later with a plan to revive businesses. Leck teaches techniques he uses with horses also applies to dealing with people.
