Between food hygiene inspections, Robert Crouch would dream up different ways of killing the difficult chefs he had to deal with. Rather than ruin a promising career, he drew on his experience as an environmental health officer to create a detective who could solve these killings. Robert tapped into his early experiences of injustice and a desire to right wrongs to explore the motivation behind the killings in his books. He lightens the darkness with irreverent humour and ensures his love of animals, nature and the environment add a contemporary twist to the Kent Fisher murder mysteries. The novels are set in the South Downs and Eastbourne, where Robert lives with his wife. They can often be seen walking among the gentle hills and the coast with their cameras, capturing the local wildlife and settings for the next Kent Fisher novel.
