Kiki (aka Robert Escobar) was born in Miami, Florida in the pre-digital world. He and his friends were loosed upon the unsuspecting neighborhood on a daily basis where they played sports, skateboarded on the roofs of houses when no one was home, had rock throwing battles, explored construction sites, climbed onto freight trains, made homemade weapons and diligently worked on their dream of one day being ninjas. When not thus wholesomely occupied, Kiki read the encyclopedia and would look at anything in the house that seemed to be from an earlier time. His family was fun loving and travelled much, including to his parents’ native Colombia where there were many more fascinating old and exotic things, like a telephone with a hand crank hanging on a farmhouse wall. In his freshman year of High School Kiki began a lifelong love affair with the study of history in Mr. O’Brian’s class. Mr. Buckholtz’s English class (the next year) ignited his mind. A classical liberal arts education at the University of Dallas continued that and it was there that he met his future wife and best friends. It is also where he began his study of martial arts and weaponry. He now works, skateboards, practices karate, writes and occasionally collects antiques in the Dallas area.
