Hobkirk writes in the morning with a couple cups of coffee. He likes to write where there is a hubbub, like in a coffee shop. When he blocks out all the distractions and hears only his imagination, he knows that his writing is on the right track. The most valuable lesson he learned about writing was something John Mortimer said, "The only rule I have found to have any validity in writing is not to bore yourself."
