The Green Years
1944
Copyright 1944, hardcover, ex-library, 347 pages. "The story of a young Scottish boy who dreams of a vocation in the sciences. His task is made all the harder by the fact that his Father is an extremely stingy working man who refuses to give his son any money, to the point of refusing to even buy him a decent suit of clothes for school. The boy is forced to wear an awful, garishly bright green home-made suit, hence the title. His Uncle eventually comes to his rescue and helps him to buy the books that he needs to go to the University. This novel was made into a movie by the same name featuring Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Dean Stockwell, Tom Drake and Charles Coburn." Inch round white stain on back, library cardholder glued inside front cover. Flaps from former dustjacket glued inside front and back cover. Binding is secure.

Shannon's Way
1948
Robert Shannon was a devoted scientist on the brink of a medical discovery of great importance. He had no time or inclination for women . . . or for any of the world outside his laboratory. But Jean Law had other plans for him. Strictly brought up by narrow-minded parents, confined by her hospital lectures and her dingy boarding-house, she hardly knew the fires that burned beneath her calm exterior . . . except that they burned for Robert Shannon. She knew she had to have him for herself, and, despite her family's religious beliefs, their shocked disapproval, and all she had been taught was her destiny, she was determined to fight for him. In the magnificent narrative tradition of The Citadel, The Stars Look Down and Cronin's other classic novels, Shannon's Way is a great book by a much-loved author.
