Born 1941 into a farming family of Irish descent, Henaghan was the third of four children. Henaghan was steered by her school into a teaching career, but after being told her voice was perfect for radio and a particularly unhappy teaching assignment, Henaghan applied for a position at 2ZA radio & was accepted after her first audition. Henaghan enjoyed a very successful radio career, but a change in her circumstances meant she had to resign and find a job she could do from home. While on radio she had interviewed NZ Mills & Boon author Essie Summers. Henaghan was a fan of Summers' books & felt she could also write to the Mills & Boon format. Henaghan's first attempt was accepted and published. She continued to right but the income from her writing wasn't enough to support her and her young daughter, so she had to find other income, so became a real estate agent and eventually stopped writing. Then there was another change in Henaghan's life where she became a caregiver to a beloved aunt with Alzheimers.
