Although her first career was critical care nursing, Sammie Justesen always kept one foot in the publishing world. In the 1960s she studied creative writing at Harvard for a time, lived in a Boston commune, and worked for a weekly newspaper called the Avatar. In later years she worked as a clinical editor for medical publishers, and then became a sought-after freelance editor. During that time she was fortunate to publish two novels and several nonfiction books. Sammie opened a literary agency called Northern Lights Literary Services to help a group of editing clients find publishers for their work. In 2008, Sammie, her husband Dee, and friend Nadene Carter founded an indie publishing firm called NorLightsPress. Now working as a publisher, Sammie enjoys helping writers perfect their manuscripts and enter the business. Authors thrive under NorLightsPress' flexibility, partnership philosophy, and creative approach to marketing.
