From the Publisher's note to this edition: This edition is intended to introduce the work of Sappho to the modern reader. It does not attempt the definitive text ... In the hope that the reader may appreciate how much - or how little - of the available text required tentative reconstruction to complete the poem, the translations are presented with the Greek from which they were derived on facing pages.
