January 1944. The Allied advance along the mountainous spine of Italy is brought to a halt by the formidable defences of the Gustav Line, and Sergeant Tom and his comrades are ordered behind enemy lines to disrupt German re-supply. Against the background of the bitter Apennine winter, they battle Nazi and Italian Fascist forces and confront betrayal from within. Will they complete their operation and return to Allied territory or has their luck finally run out?
