The cyborg Eric DeValtos and his crew are hot on the trail of an escaped convict, who was last seen in the vicinity of the remote mining planet, Alphatos. Before going out to search for him, the DeValtos 5 relax and sleep to rebuild their energy after the long journey. However, one of Alphatos’ burnt-out moons isn’t as lifeless as it appears, now home to a notorious gang of space pirates known as the Star Devourers. While Eric and Arinna are resting, the Star Devourers manage to take over the Star Scimitar and abduct the other three crew-members. The mercenary and the Eridon gynomorph go in search of their missing companions and encounter the mysterious leader of the gang. However Akaros is no ordinary space pirate in search of simple plunder, but a member of a dark, secret organisation in command of some formidable alien technology. He is seeking power, control - and fresh recruits. He has his sights set on Eric and Arinna.
