In Luke Short's Station West, the inspiration for the 1948 Western classic film by Sidney Lanfield, Lt. John Haven must go undercover to find who has stolen 70 army uniforms intending to use them to steal gold bullion from the army. "Retrieve or Destroy" Those were Lieutenant Haven's orders. The Army uniforms on their way to Fort Stambaugh had been stolen by the same crew that hijacked every shipment of bullion out of the brawling mining town. Now the frightened mine owners were storing their gold at the little garrison. Haven had to act under cover. He had to track down the cunning mastermind—before an army of hired toughs overran the fort and got the rest of the gold.
