Mia has always been "one of the guys," and with her friends in the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity it's no different. But when one of the senior members of the frat, Jaxon, starts to pay more attention to her, she isn't sure whether to go for the attractive and athletic guy or to just keep things the way they've always been. Her mind is made up when Jaxon makes a move—but then she's thrown into confusion as he goes out of his way to ignore and snub her after they sleep together. Mia decides to move on with her life—right up until her mother announces her marriage, and introduces her to her new stepbrother... wow.

Mia's horror at discovering the reason for Jaxon's strange behavior after they slept together only mounts when she realizes that she is going to be spending her entire holiday in his company. She tries to avoid him, does everything she can—but somehow, just like before, Jaxon is everywhere; he takes her on a tour of her new step-father's house, he accompanies her on the slopes, wherever she goes he's there—and he wants to talk about the situation. Mia wants to do anything but. When Jaxon and she begin to relax together, Mia can feel herself getting caught up in the pull of how attracted she is to him, and knows that in spite of their need to keep their previous love making together a secret, she is going to absolutely end up in his arms once more—and she doesn't know how she is going to deal with it.

After Mia's mother discovers her and Jaxon together, the family holiday seems to be ruined; although Mia tries to explain herself, her mother refuses to talk about it, and says that she will try and pretend like she hadn't seen anything. The only member of the new family in the dark about the situation is Jaxon's father Bob—but when Bob humiliates Jaxon at a family dinner, will the truth come out?

Even though Mia had hoped that going back to school would make things better, her pain hasn't abated with the end of the holiday. She finds herself avoiding Jaxon and by extension all of her friends, finally caving when it comes to practice. When she can't take her eyes off of him, she runs away—only to find her longtime friend Jeremy waiting at her dorm, eager to have her back at the frat among her friends. When Mia and Jaxon finally agree that the only way they can possibly deal with the situation is to strictly treat each other like brother and sister, will they be able to last?

Mia and Jaxon's hookup was not as much of a secret as they thought; while they're both worried, there's no longer any reason to keep their feelings a secret with everyone on campus not only in the know—but also approving of it. They spend their first week together as an official, open couple practicing together, making up for lost time, and enjoying the fact that they no longer have to hide or pretend. They both cheer each other on at their second meet, and Mia can't remember a time when she has been happier in her entire life; when they both finish first in their respective divisions, Mia and Jaxon find somewhere to celebrate privately—only to be discovered by their parents, who came to surprise them, not knowing that they would get a surprise of their own. As Jaxon's father berates her in the middle of a restaurant, Mia decides she has had enough of his cruelty and stands up for herself and for Jaxon, telling her step-father that he's not only not good enough for her step-brother, but not good enough for her mother either. Convinced she has destroyed not only her chances at being with Jaxon, but also every vestige of a relationship with her mom, Mia flees. Is the end?
