With an explorer’s curiosity and a knack for being in the right place at the right time, Steve Kaffen has traveled the world and writes about his experiences. His books include hundreds of supporting photos. Steve is a long-time member of the respected Explorers Club, nominated by mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary after they met high in the Himalayas. The following year, Steve climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to see sunrise over Africa, and several years later, he joined Chile's Navy on a voyage into Antarctica. Steve's travels include a four-year unexpected journey across Asia, Africa, and the Americas; an overland trek across the Middle East; numerous voyages by ship; and bus and rail adventures in Europe, Australia, and the United States. A regular at soccer’s World Cup, the latest in South Africa (2010), Brazil (2014), Russia (2018), and Qatar (2022), Steve coordinates visiting the host country and attending soccer matches. When the USA hosted the World Cup, Steve wrote its operating procedures and was the Rose Bowl finance manager. Steve served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Russia in the mid-1990s, and subsequently as the Peace Corps' audit director. He has monitored elections for the UN and performed for UNICEF a global review of its programs. Steve grew up in New York City and has also lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, and now Washington, DC. His travel and life experiences may have led the University of Maryland, in its "Alumni Spotlight," to state that "Steve Kaffen might be the most interesting man in the world." He is thrilled that you are taking an interest in his books and hopes that you enjoy them.
