Lightning strikes a sleepy valley in the rural Lake District, Northern England, and something extraordinary begins for sixteen-year-old Ivy Tallis. She’s the only witness of this single, silent bolt, and she’s no weather expert, but she’s sure there need to be clouds for there to be lightning – and there are none. It’s just the first in a series of increasingly bizarre goings on. Soon, Ivy is performing feats of supernatural speed, extra-sensory ability, and telekinesis, and the only clue as to why lies with her high school nemeses; the pretty, popular Sasha Rivers and her twin brother James. Meanwhile, her neighbours’ new lodger appears to be haunting her every move. The enigmatic William Winter has no home, no family, and no comment on the matter of who he is or where he came from. All Ivy knows is that she’s crazy about him. But the horrifying truth of what Ivy really is – and the death and destruction she is fated to cause – will threaten the future she thought she’d have, and tear her and William apart. Ivy wants to trust him, but the mysterious stranger has a secret of his own, and sharing hers could cost Ivy her life.
