I love to read seasoned authors as well as newbie Indie authors like myself. I'm a little obsessed with negative or low reviews too. Not sure why, but sometimes those are the most honest ones. Of course, they can be stupid and ridiculously biased. I still read them. LOL. Too many people are five-starring books these days in my opinion. My rating scale! Five stars: Book hangover to follow. This was almost perfect for me. The plot, characters, timing, and consistency were spot on. I loved it and devoured the contents quickly. Kudos to the author. I don't give these often. Four stars: An excellent read. It was well-thought-out and grammatically sound. This is what I hope to find when opening a book. Sometimes, I think a book is five star, but something at the end doesn't fully resonate with me. Doesn't mean I still don't love the book. Three stars:These are often hype books. I read so I don't miss out not always because I truly want to read. It can go either way. I often throw in a half-star if it was better than I first thought or just a three if it was just good or alright. A three is not bad by any means. There was probably something minimal distracting me in the stroryline, some editing issues, plot holes, or a character I didn't quite connect with. Two stars: This would be a trainwreck for me and probably a DNF. I hardly rate two stars. One star: I don't rate this. If something was so poor to me, I wouldn't waste my time and finish.
