In 2005, Thomas Lucas Jr. was a gofer at his family's real estate company. He had dropped out of college and had no direction on his future. His reputation as a liar was well known amongst his friends. After being fired by his family, Lucas Jr. had to figure out a way to appear relevant to his family, friends and community. Lucas Jr. created a story that Disney would build a theme park called Frontier Disney DFW in North Texas. Lucas Jr. and his uncle used this false information to solicit doctors, lawyers, professional athletes and others into investing in the land surrounding the alleged Disney site. Lucas Jr. represented that when Disney announced their plans for the theme park, the landowners surrounding the theme park stood to become instant millionaires. Unbeknownst to the investors, the promise of the theme park was built on lies concocted by Lucas Jr. As investors became suspicious, Lucas Jr. would create more lies to stay one step ahead of the investors. By 2009, the investors realized they had lost over $60 million. Lawsuits were unproductive and law enforcement was disinterested. In a final plea, by a desperate investor, to a small FBI office in North Texas, the FBI finally stepped in and brought Lucas Jr. to justice.
