The Pupung series follows the tradition of the daily strip also in two counts; the first is on the level of the themes they represent, the Filipino family; secondly the script follows the golden rule of a daily comic strip and its ambition to reflect the concerns of the public and mirror its sensibility. With Pupung, there is a return to speculative strain of the strip. The streamlining of the script, a specific balance between visual and verbal outlines, the extraordinary characterization of the Mang Doms and the ‘Days of this land. —Boy Togonon
