The last of the human race lives underground. On the surface, creatures of magic live freely with the ruling class of vampires whose collective greed and improvidence created a blood shortage. Luc is training to be a Blood Keeper, a soldier vowed to protect the remaining human compound in Monstrum from starving vampires. On the night of graduation, Luc and her fellow recruits participate in a rite of passage known as The Tasting, a ceremony designed to test the Prophecy that claims to restore human life. Luc thought the Prophecy was an old story that provided nothing more than false hope until she was alone on The Tasting stage and forced to face the truth about herself, her purpose, and the evil within the walls she was destined to defend.
