Childhood, growing up, coming of age—it can be a wonderful time, a time we look back on fondly as we age. It can also be a time when life reveals its true self; a time when we discover just how cruel the world can be. Just how unpredictable and fluid. In this short story, three fourteen-year-old friends attempt to make the most of the final day of summer before their first day of High School. In the midst of celebrating their freedom, two members of the trio are forced to make a difficult and selfish choice. While the duo faces the end of innocence, their friend ventures down a rabbit hole into a capsule of bizarre time and peculiar space. When he returns from the dark, mystical realm, he finds he’s alone and nothing’s quite what it seems.
