After investigating a murder shakes her to her core, former detective Kait McShea vows she will never return to the force as long as she lives. Wanting to put enough distance between herself and her career as a detective, she makes her way back to her hometown in Long Island. Kait, getting settled into her family's home and finally feeling at peace, finds herself face to face with another murder. Only this time, she is the first person on the scene and finds the victim to be a close family member, her niece, Clara. Detective Alex O'Connor is assigned to Clara's case and in a matter of days a second murder occurs. Coincidentally, Kait has the misfortune of discovering this crime scene much like that of her niece. Detective O'Connor is intrigued by the fact Kait seems to be the first person discovering these victims and it is becoming clear that Kait McShea is a prime suspect. While Detective O'Connor continues the formal investigation, Kait makes it her mission to find Clara's killer. She is well aware that the body count is rising and with that a sickening realization closes in on her, the victims are all connected to Clara.
