When Erick disappered it wasn't that big of a surprise: Ben's drug-addicted, lowlife brother was always pissing off dangerous people, so it was easy to assume he'd made the wrong person mad. Sure it sucked, but Ben got over it. Then one night, four years after Erick vanished, Ben comes face-to-face with a mysterious man with silver hair, the same person who was last seen with Erick. After a failed attempt to get answers from him, Ben becomes obsessed with finding the silver-haired man he's sure killed his brother. Though who he ends up finding isn't quite his brother's killer, but an odd young man with pointed ears, who brings Ben to a new world that he'd never fathomed existed. And all the more baffling, this strange-looking young man is telling Ben that not only does he need Ben to help him save their kingdom from a rebel king… …that rebel king is none other than Erick.

The prophecy walkers have been fractured, and for the first time since arriving in Elron, Ben has found himself completely alone. He’s now leagues away from Teal and Malagant and his health is fading fast. However Ben soon finds out that he isn’t alone, but as he continues on his journey and gets to know this strange elf who has saved him… he soon wishes that he was. Meanwhile, on the prophecy’s orders, Malagant and Teal head to Birch, with only the desperate hope that Ben will met them there, fuelling their steps. They are now placing their waning hope in Anagin, Malagant’s father and past prophecy walker, to shed some light on their disastrous journey. A journey that is being guided by a demigod that has gone missing, and directed by a prophecy book that offers them nothing but the occasional line of vague scrawl. And as time goes on and strange things start happening in Birch and the Lazarius Plains, it becomes clear to Anagin that things are not what they seem - and that not just Alcove, but all of Elron, may be in grave danger.

After a desperate bid to save the Jewel of Elron from the hands of a crazed demigod, the prophecy walkers are now in Shol. Guided by Anagin, Malagant’s father, they traverse through the dark realm to try and locate their pendants, finding danger and demenos every step of the way. But they soon discover that Shol has its own set of problems: a prophecy is currently in play, and even Shade God, the God of Shol, is confused as to what is going on. And in Lelan Hold, Eliander Luceon, the Crowned Prince of Lelan, is preparing to marry his Alcovian fiancé. With his only remaining brother Chesirae and his uncle here to witness it, Eliander is content to have his family finally under one roof. But things soon go south when a slippery mage under King Erick’s command pays them a visit, and gives King Korivander an ultimatum can will change everything. Meanwhile in Alcove, and currently unaware of what is going on within his kingdom, Erick, Sweeny, and the kessiik mage Nyte travel through the harsh terrain to try and locate the pendant carriers. Erick has to warn his brother that they’re on a doomed quest, that the Stillborn God is luring them to their deaths. It becomes clear however that Erick and his small party may be the ones in danger, and that the undead god has now set his sights on him.

Finally, after having to endure the mental and emotional stress caused by their captive Serpent Knights, Ben, Teal, and Malagant have found silence. However, that silence will be short-lived, because they may be done with the Amasuvira Mountains, but the mountains aren’t quite done with them. Four bloodmages have fixed their sights on the pendant carriers, and what they intend on taking from them could have the three imprisoned for half a decade. And back in Lelan Castle, Eliander’s will is crumbling fast under the manipulative and cruel hand of his uncle. With Migheer now arrested and awaiting trial, Kordalis’s bid for the crown will have him sinking to a new low, for the Warden of the Lelan Islands has a nefarious plan that could permanently break the new king. But as one royal falls, another is finding his feet. Chesirae continues to gain confidence under the watchful gaze of Keleon, and every day the mismatched pair grow closer as they attempt to find the origins of the strange relic… the mirror that Keleon is sure will stop the Gods’ Games once and for all.
