Born in London in 1957, he was educated at the Medway College of Art and Design and at the Bath Academy of Art. He taught for a brief time at the Bath Academy and at Southampton Art College, before launching a career in magazine and book illustration. He has illustrated books for many children's authors, including Joan Aiken, Kevin Crossley-Holland and Jane Goodall.
