Her name was Mary Danforth and she might have been the daughter of the Earl of Rushmore had her great grandfather not gotten involved in the affairs of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Instead, under the name Mary Migglesworth, and the guise of a housemaid she was loitering around the library trying to find the clues which would help her find the Rushmoreland Rubies in order to support herself and her impecunious gambler of a father. He was Rake Halliburton. Known before simply as "Rake," now unexpectedly the Earl of Rushmoreland. He was looking for the rubies as well—he wanted to use them adorn the orange haired actress he had brought from London to annoy his strait laced family. Now both masquerading maid and infamous rogue are bend upon the same quest—a quest that could lead to love or danger as they find themselves dodging a gun-toting butler, a sinister ghost, and a rapacious murderer who will stop at nothing—to stop them...from discovering the whereabouts of the legendary Rushmoreland rubies!
