Japanese women have always been known for their gentleness and loyalty towards their male counterparts. However, due to the influence by the West, they no longer consider a sense of loyalty as an honour. Instead they have risen to challenge the macho culture of Japanese men. For example in this novel the character Michiko rejects the corpse of her dead husband who had an affair. Although set in Japan the novel is interspersed with Malay characters. A transalation from the original Malay novel.
