G.G. Pendarves (Gladys Gordon Trenery) was one of the most respected writers for Weird Tales during the magazine's glory years of the late 1920s and early 1930s. One of the few British authors to achieve great popularity with readers of "The Unique Magazine", Pendarves had two of her tales reprinted twice in the pages of the magazine. As an author who incorporated the colorful atmosphere of her native Cornwall into her Jamesian tales of ancient dooms and ancestral haunts, Pendarves brings a disturbing verisimilitude to her ghostly tales. This is the first of two volumes collecting all of her weird fiction. About the editor: Mike Ashley is one of the foremost authorities on fantastic and weird fiction with dozens of anthologies and single-author collections to his credit. Recent projects include the definitive biography of Algernon Blackwood and numerous anthologies. Mike is currently at work preparing the definitive index of fiction magazines for the British Library.
