I am an independent author whose book, titled "Damaged People: Narcissism and the Foundation of a Dysfunctional American Society" was published in December 2020. The book combines memoir and scholarly analysis to analyze the issue of our time - narcissism; its effects on victims and society as a whole; root causes and descriptions of various types of NPD; its contribution to the overall lack of empathy sweeping the country; as well as the historical, sociological, political, and economic implications of narcissism in American life. The book's discussion of the threat of anti-intellectualism, gaslighting, collective narcissism, and demagoguery that have engulfed right-wing American politics is quite prescient, particularly since the book was published only a couple of weeks before the American capitol insurrection by unhinged supporters of Donald Trump. The book is my best attempt to connect the socioeconomic, political, and psychological factors that have led us as a society to this divisive cultural tipping point.
