Saya's mother always told her "Whatever you do, don't go with a gambler," but when she takes work in an investment consultancy firm and meets Bogey, a charismatic older man with money and a passion for gambling, her mother's advice is quickly forgotten. Saya embarks on an intense love affair, throwing herself wholeheartedly into a world of late-night parties, expensive clothes and friendships with the extravagant players in Tokyo's seedy underworld, but she soon comes to realize the emptiness of their life together - their happiness governed by the rise and fall of Tokyo's economy, the betrayal of his many affairs, and the boredom and dissatisfaction of being kept as a trophy with no voice and no life of her own.
