Whilst working as a college lecturer, I wrote extensively for national children's/YA magazines such as 'Shout', 'Animals and You', 'The Mandy' and 'The Bunty'. In 2011, I published my first two books: the highly successful 'Children's History of Manchester' and 'Children's History of Lancashire'. I then began work with my brother, David, on 'The Perfect Pair Dolphin Trilogy'. 'The Perfect Pair: The Enchanted Mirror' (2012) was made a core text for the University of Salford's BA(Hons) degree in English and Creative Writing. It also won Bronze for non-fiction in The Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2013. An extract from the book won first prize in a prestigious 'Manchester Evening News' literary competition. 'The Perfect Pair: The Mirror Cracks' (2014) was praised for David's innovative artwork. The final book of the trilogy, 'The Perfect Pair: Shards from the Mirror' (2016) completed what many recognise to be the most important work in UK dolphinaria history - 'the Blackfish for dolphins'. David and I then collaborated on the Belinda Fellgate young adult fantasy series, which David illustrated not only with black/white stamp artwork, but also full-page colour plates. Belinda Fellgate: HellCat (2020); Belinda Fellgate: The Kiss of Flauros (2020/21); Belinda Fellgate: Malamok (2022). This series is built around Spirit, magic and morality, but also addresses important issues in the 'real' world, such as cruelty to animals and humankind's ongoing destruction of our planet. Never short of a project to work on, we are now planning two new books, which we hope to publish in 2023.
