Peyton Rayne is a nineteen-year-old college student struggling to balance her "normal" life with the decidedly abnormal gift of premonitions. Though determined to start anew in the tiny eastern town of Wildridge, one foggy vision later finds Peyton in the middle of a centuries old war and a much more current personal battle. With her town under siege, a best friend with a dangerous secret, and shocking news about her own murky history, Peyton has a lot on her plate. And that's all before midterms. Peyton is no stranger to the- well, strange- but when her most recent vision reveals the partnership of her best friend and roommate, Claire, with Alec, a violent vampire, her whole world is turned upside down. Initially focused on the terrifying implications of what such a partnership could mean (nightmarish hell-beasties, anyone?) and the shock of learning that her best friend is a vampire slayer, Peyton soon finds herself desperate to learn more about the oddly familiar Alec. After nearly dying by his hand (or more accurately, fang), she discovers another Alec is no ordinary vampire. Time isn't on her side as she races to discover what unearthly creatures the newly formed vampire-slayer tag team will be facing, and the one thing her visions can't tell her is the one thing she is most desperate to which of her friends will still be standing once the dust settles?
