Russian Trotskyist Historian. He is most known for "Was There An Alternative?" a 7-volume study of Stalin era between 1923 and 1940, with an emphasis on the Trotskyist opposition. He was considered the leading one among Trotskyist Soviet historians emerging after Perestroika.
