Veronika Marék was born in 1937 December 19 in Budapest. Her father was a doctor and he was a successful writer as well. Her mother was a dentist and later worked as a school doctor. She was 17 years old when she drew her first story book, which was published in 1956. She earned a degree in puppeteer and graduated in Hungarian literature from ELTE University, at the department of liberal arts. Veronika Marék received the Ifjúsági (Youth) prize in 1983, the Janikovszky Éva prize in 2006 and the József Attila prize in 2010.
