Vivarium is a pamphlet about strangers and intimacy. The poems bristle with melancholy and hope, the past and the future, anxiety and a call to arms. They speak to a generation concerned about biodiversity loss and global warming. Maarja Pärtna is part of the new generation of young Estonian poets, and this edition has been awarded funding by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. walls we have always built them - walls to keep something inside keep someone outside piles of stone, arrowheads a face transformed by hate in the guise of a friendly glance. what does history tell us? of walls put up or pulled down of walls - and graves. which are another kind of wall to keep the dead where they belong.
