Vivencio R. Jose was the author of several books and monographs, including The Rise and Fall of Antonio Luna, which became a basis for the acclaimed 2015 film "Heneral Luna." His columns appeared in both national and Asian newspapers. He also worked as a consultant for the United Nations University (Tokyo) and UNESCO (Paris). Dr. Jose earned the degrees AB English, MA Comparative Literature, and PhD Philippine Studies from the University of the Philippines, where he taught and worked as Secretary of the University and of the Board of Regents (1993–1995). He also served as Director of the University's PhD Philippine Studies Program, Director of the UP Press, Chairman of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, and Dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
