One day, three little words—You’ve got cancer—changed everything. At first it was easy to move on with each new change: weight loss or weight gain; committed to single; or long hair, no hair or new hair. And the most dramatic: two breasts, one breast, or even none at all. It’s easy to lose your self confidence. When I began this journey, I had it in spades, but now? Not so much. It felt like every time I put myself out there I lost one more piece of myself, one chip at a time, until I had no more pieces left to lose. It would be easy to give up when you feel this low, and believe me, I’ve considered it a time or two or twenty-seven. Ironically, that’s also the age I am now. Then one day, Dr. Connor Adams, the rock star of cancer doctors and my oncologist’s best friend looks at . . . me? Surviving cancer should have been the hard part. Sometimes it takes more than a mirror, but a look deep inside to realize what makes you beautiful, and life and love through the dreaded C-word are no different.
