ALL EMOTIONS ARE UNIVERSAL. WE LIVE, WE DREAM, WE STRIVE, WE DIE . . . Follow twenty-three science fiction and fantasy authors on their journeys through Asia and beyond. Stories about where we come from and where we are going. Each wrestling between ghostly pasts and uncertain future. Each trying to find a voice in history. Orphans and drug-smuggling in deep space. Mechanical arms in steampunk Vancouver. Djinns and espionage in futuristic Istanbul. Humanoid robot in steamy Kerala. Monsters in the jungles of Cebu. Historic time travel in Gyeongbok Palace. Jeremy Szal
Jeremy Szal
Author · 4 books

Jeremy Szal was born in 1995 and was raised by wild dingoes, which should explain a lot. He spent his childhood exploring beaches, bookstores, and the limits of people’s patience. He’s the author of the Common trilogy from Gollancz, a space opera trilogy, which includes STORMBLOOD, BLINDSPACE, and WOLFSKIN, about a drug harvested from alien DNA that makes users permanently addicted to adrenaline and aggression. He likes writing about broken heroes looking for hope in dark worlds, found families, aliens, outcasts, and morally-grey heroes who don't always do the right thing, even when they want to. He’s the author of over fifty science-fiction short stories, translated into six languages, published in many anthologies and podcasts. He was the fiction editor for Hugo-winning podcast StarShipSofa until 2020, where he has worked as audio producer with George R. R. Martin, William Gibson, Harlan Ellison and others. He holds a rather useless BA in Film Studies and Creative Writing from the University of N.S.W. He carves out a living in Sydney, Australia where he drinks too much gin, watches too many weird films and makes too many dark jokes. Find him at @jeremyszal or http://jeremyszal.com/

Tony Pi
Author · 1 books

I was born in Taipei, Taiwan, but moved to Canada when I was eight. I enjoy reading, gaming, and writing. It was inevitable that my love of language would intersect with the joys of writing fiction and poetry, specifically in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. I am a member of SFWA and the Codex Writers’ Group, as well as the Stop-Watch Gang, a neo-pro speculative fiction critique group in Toronto. I hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. My areas of expertise are Semantics and Sociolinguistics, which means I pay a lot of attention to the meaning of words and the people who use them. I’m interested in how verbs and prepositions work, and how Canadian English varies from region to region. I currently work at Innis College in the University of Toronto as an administrator for the graduate Cinema Studies program, the Writing & Rhetoric program, and the Urban Studies program. The preferred pronunciation of my last name is ‘pie’, like the Greek letter. I go by the handle @wistling on LiveJournal, Twitter, and e-mail. Why? Because I started off with @lingwist initially, then broke it into two syllables and rearranged them. I love anagrams!
