Chia Hwee Pheng has published eight books in Chinese under the pen name Xi Ni Er. He has received the SEA Write Award and the National Book Development Council of Singapore’s Book Award. In 2008, he was awarded Singapore’s Cultural Medallion and his collected short stories won the Singapore Literature Prize. Currently he serves as president of the Singapore Association of Writers.
