As a child, Yvonne Spence loved writing stories. She wrote a "novel" at the age of 13, full of secret treasure, shadowy villains and young heroines. Having completed the novel she shoved it away in cardboard box. Three years later when she was meant to be tidying her room and instead was rifling through the contents of cardboard boxes, she found it again. Writing still happened in exercise jotters then and rewriting was not a term she had heard, let alone tried, so that novel went up in flames and posterity will never know if it was any good. However, Yvonne Spence eventually did get the hang of rewriting and has written and rewritten many short stories, some of which have won prizes and some of which are available in the ebook Looking For America. One reviewer has compared the stories in Looking For America to the writing of Isabel Allende. She has also written another novel, Drawings in Sand, also available in the kindle store. Yvonne Spence lives in the UK with her husband, daughters and cats.
