Stanislav Aseyev is a Ukrainian writer and journalist, and he also writes in Russian. In May 2014 his native city of Donetsk fell under control of pro-Russian militants and he remained there. During the period of 2015–2017 Aseyev was publishing his reports (writing under the pen name Stanislav Vasin) for Ukrainian newspaper Mirror Weekly and other Ukrainian media, up until 2 June 2017, when he disappeared. On 16 July 2017, an Russian-installed official of the occupational “Ministry of State Security” confirmed that Aseyev was kidnapped by Russian-installed collaborators in Russian-occupied eastern region of Donetsk. Among Aseyev's best known Russian works is a Russian novel 'Melhiorovyi slon' (2016) and a Russian non-fiction book 'Svetlyi put': istoriya odnogo konzlageria' (2020). Among Aseyev's best known Ukrainian works is non-fiction book 'V izoliatsiyi: dopysy pro Donbas' (2017).
